Our Namesake

Carol Sue Burleson Holt was born February 14, 1945, in Alton, Illinois. She attended Illinois State University as a special education major, 1963-1967, and earned a B.S. of Education plus 24 hours of graduate work in Special Education. At ISU she met and married her husband, Bill Holt. 

Mrs. Holt began teaching in 1968—kindergarten in Rochelle, Illinois, before moving to Texas in 1969. She taught special-needs children in Everman ISD. She was a resource and first-grade teacher in Burleson ISD for several years. 

Mrs. Holt then brought her education services to the Mansfield ISD in August 1980 as a teacher of special needs children at Tarver-Rendon Elementary. In the Fall of 1981, she began teaching first grade at Tarver-Rendon, eventually becoming the assistant principal. She was the Charlotte Anderson Elementary assistant principal in 1986 when the new campus opened and was soon named principal at the campus in 1989 before retiring from the district in June 1999.
